STAFF PROFILE: EWAN MACFARLANE

Ewan Macfarlane was born into a family of artists, musicians and collectors. His grandfather Jack was captain of a ship in the merchant navy, a role which took him to locations all over the world and allowed him to discover art which would otherwise have been inaccessible. This unique position led Jack to buy Chinese art, scrolls and furniture, forming a collection which opened the young Ewan Macfarlane’s eyes to the world of art.

As Ewan’s mother was an artist studying textiles, she loved to sketch with pencil and charcoal and the young Ewan became a subject for her work. His brother is an artist in Japan, using both traditional and digital mediums to express his message.

Ewan was sketching and painting from a young age and his father, a talented musician, taught him to play guitar from the age of six. Being brought up in such a creative environment, Ewan has loved art and music from an early age, progressing to Music College after his school education.  Ewan is now a recording artist gaining commissions from around the UK.

After his studies Ewan joined the financial services and quickly became established as a financial advisor and a training manager. Ewan was also selling art for his artist wife which is when his success led to his being head hunted by the Meller Merceux Galleries.

Since working for Meller Merceux, Ewan has proved to be a successful gallery manager, helping key clients manage their collections. Ewan has a real love for British art through the ages and a particular fascination with the YBA movement.
